Artist's Note
Before there were art galleries and painters in the
earliest days of printing
, artists employed the
method of wood block printing. In this technique
the artist removes every bit of the surface of a flat
block of wood that he
or she does not want to
show up black. After applying ink to the wood block
it is pressed onto the paper. Voilà!  In traditional
wood block printing the artist would carve a
separate block for each color
he or she wishes to
appear,
removing the areas not meant to be that
color. This technique is very time intensive as the
ink for each color must be fully dry before the next
color may be applied, black being the final
application.

For the woodblock prints used In Into the Fields
there was an aggressive deadline and, due to this
time constraint
, I fudged a little and painted in the
colors with a diluted oil color mixture.
All the paintings, wood block
prints, pastels, watercolors, and
other works are all available for
purchase, unless noted.
